Evalena "Evie" Siminiak

Evie Siminiak, age 85, of Toledo, passed away on November 4, 2025, at The Toledo Hospital. She was born on August 3, 1940, in Southern Ohio to Carl and Bertha Alexander.

Evie was a proud graduate of Whitney Vocational High School, Class of 1958, where she was remembered in her yearbook as “silent when glad and affectionate though shy.” She was a member of the stenography and literary clubs and carried her love for words and people throughout her life.

She worked for over 30 years with Foodtown Grocery Stores, retiring with a legacy of dedication and service. Evie was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Parish and served as a member of UFCW Local 75 in Toledo, Ohio.

Evie deeply loved her family—her beloved sons and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her generosity, even when resources were limited she was always able to give and support others with unwavering love and care for everyone she knew. She found joy in traveling, music, theater, and dressing up for outings to the Stranahan Theater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Lee Kern and Ed Kern; her brother, Carl Alexander; and her sisters, Betty Gunter, Sarah Louise Johnson, Silvia Smith,  Bertha Brown, Flora Bronikowski, and Mary Lou Wright. Evie is survived by her sons, John (Cindi) Kern of California and Mike (Beth) Hemmig of Michigan; her brother, Ed Alexander; her sister, Reba Joann Allen; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Candice, and Taylor; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hope, Zoey, Kailee, Isabella, Jacob, Olivia, Cayden, Carsen, and Parker. She is also survived by her lifelong companion, Denny Nimigean, and many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 7th, from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. A service will follow on Saturday November 8th at 10 AM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., with burial to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
