Emma Gunzelmann Ersepke, a cherished soul whose warmth and vivacity touched many, passed away on October 13, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on November 27, 1936, in Kreuzwertheim Germany, she was the beloved daughter of Johann and Anna Barbara Gunzelmann.

Emma's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and resilience. She immigrated to the United States in 1955, where she met her first husband Frank Nowak. They fell in love and married in 1956. Together they built a family filled with love and laughter. After Frank's passing in 1964, Emma raised five children by herself which could be considered her greatest accomplishment.

Emma found love again with Hans Erespke in 1991, cementing another chapter of cherished companionship.

A devoted homemaker, Emma's culinary skills were celebrated far and wide. She shared her passion for cooking as a cook for numerous establishments, always bringing a hint of her heritage and heart to every dish she crafted. Emma was also a proud member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Memorial Lutheran Church, and the Greater Beneficial Union (GBU), where she forged lifelong friendships and contributed to her community's spirit.

Emma had a zest for life that was evident in her hobbies and interests. She found joy in gardening, bicycle riding, and especially in dancing to German folk music and polkas. Her dedication to her roots was further exemplified by her volunteer work at the German American Festival and German Club, where she shared her culture with pride and enthusiasm.

Family was Emma's greatest treasure. She is survived by her loving children, Frances Nowak, Kathy (Frank) Powalowski, and Chris Nowak, as well as her grandchildren Christina (Daryll) Davis, Dustin Nowak, Kimberly (lan) Malcomb, Kevin (Allie) Powalowski, Jordan (Jen) Kalmbach, Jessica (Jon) Seifert, and Alec Nowak. Her legacy continues through her 12 great-grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.

Emma is predeceased by her parents, Johann and Anna Barbara, her husband’s Frank and Hans, her son Martin, daughter Barbara, and beloved grandchildren Autumn and Kyle. Despite the heartache of these losses, Emma's spirit remained unyielding and her heart ever open.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Ebeid of Sylvania for their compassionate care. In honor of Emma's life and her dedication to helping others, donations can be made to Hospice Ebeid of Sylvania.

Emma's family invites all who knew her to celebrate her incredible life. Her spirit, joy, and love will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the power of kindness and the beauty of a life well-lived.
