Edward Joseph Shiets, born on April 6, 1946, in Fremont, Ohio the last of ten children (and the only one to be born in the hospital) peacefully passed away in his hometown on June 7, 2026. His life was a testament to kindness, humor, and a passion for craftsmanship that touched everyone who had the privilege to know him.
Edward worked diligently for over three decades at the Foundry Kelsey Hayes in Fremont, Ohio. His dedication did not end there; he then devoted another 19 years to Crescent in Fremont, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to his work and community. Throughout his career, Edward carried with him a philosophy that resonated deeply with those around him: "Life is short, there's no reason to be upset." This simple yet profound wisdom reflected his approach to life's challenges and joys alike.
Beyond his professional life, Edward had a rich tapestry of hobbies that brought him immense joy and connected him to his creative spirit. He was an avid model builder, skilled in woodworking, and had a deep love for model trains, steam engines, and model airplanes. These interests weren’t just pastimes; they were expressions of his meticulous nature and his appreciation for detail and beauty. Of special note was the time he spent drawing alongside his special friend Tennessee at the lighthouse in Marblehead—moments that encapsulated his gentle spirit and love for companionship.
Edward was a man of great warmth and humor. He was kind and welcoming, always making others feel at ease with his presence. His great sense of humor was a defining characteristic, often lightening hearts with his favorite saying, "I'm in bad shape and I'm not fakin' it... Not kidding, Not joking." Such words unveiled his honest and straightforward nature, a man who embraced life fully despite its trials.
He was immensely proud of his son, Brian, who also lovingly cared for Edward in the later years of his life. This bond was one of Edward’s proudest accomplishments, reflecting a deep family connection that brought him strength and peace. Edward’s family also includes his cherished daughter in law Sandi and grandchildren Ashley (James) Hill and Amber Shiets, as well as seven great-grandchildren—Jackson, Elaina, Sawyer, Sam, Olivia, Auron, and Raelynn—with two more expected to join the family soon. The love within this circle is a testament to Edward’s enduring legacy.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his nine siblings, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. Though they have passed, the values and love they shared live on in Edward and the family he so dearly loved.
As we remember Edward Joseph Shiets, we hold close the image of a man who lived life with gentle humor, kind heart, and unwavering dedication—to his work, his family, and his passions. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, craftsmanship, and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His spirit remains woven into the fabric of Fremont, Ohio, where his journey began and ended, and where his memory will forever dwell in the hearts of those he loved.
