It is with heavy hearts that we gather to honor a beloved husband, dad and papa, Edward Schultz Jr. Eddie passed peacefully at home on September 13, 2024.
Eddie and his twin brother, Larry were born on August 29, 1942 to Edward Sr. and Helen Schultz. He was one of four siblings raised in a strong German/Catholic home on Toledo’s South Side. Eddie graduated in 1961 from Libbey High School.
After graduation Eddie was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served honorably for 2 years during the Vietnam War. He was happy to be stationed at Fort Bragg alongside his brother Larry (South Carolina would never be the same). He was proud of his service and became a member of the American Legion in South Toledo.
After being discharged he started working at Toledo Stamping (now Toledo Technologies) where he met the love of his life, Margie. It was love at first … wait, she did spill hot oil on him! But second degree burns didn’t stop him asking her out a few weeks later and the rest is history! They were married at a beautiful summer ceremony on July 15, 1967 and spent 57 wonderful years together.
Ready to start a family they welcomed their first son David a year later. It would be four years later before Mark came bouncing into the world. Then less than two years later they would meet their third son, Brian. Their family was now complete.
Eddie was a hard worker; holding several side jobs which allowed Margie to stay home and raise the boys. Life wasn’t always easy but he was dedicated to taking care of his family, in every way. He learned how to do household repairs and became very handy. He enjoyed doing remodels on their home and took pride in his workmanship.
After 38 years he retired as a semi-truck driver from Toledo Technologies. He was excited to spend his extra time with his grandkids and trips to the Amish. Margie highly encouraged Eddie to take up hobbies (mostly to keep him out of her kitchen). He decided to take over the basement filling it with several train sets. He painstakingly created scenes from his imagination and sense of humor. He also enjoyed watching his beloved Toledo Mudhens play baseball every week. Later, he started scrapping with his twin. They enjoyed taking apart small appliances and other household items to earn a little spending cash.
When he wasn’t indulging in his hobbies he would spend time spoiling his seven grandkids. Eddie was excited to be a grandpa and believed he had the best grandkids. He was the happiest when the grandkids were at his house, even when grumpy!
Eddie could be described as a strong silent type or even stoic. He didn’t have a lot to say, he left that to Margie. But he has a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed being naughty. He loved nothing more than being spoiled with a Burger King whopper or bag of chips when Margie was distracted. Eddie had a life filled with so much love and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Margie (Stewart) Schultz; sons, David (Renee), Mark (Kelly) and Brian (Danielle); grandkids, Conner, Kelsie, Aiden, Alexia, Logan, Thomas and Daniel; brother, Larry; and sister, Sharon (Cass) Baden; sister-in-law, Ann (Cleo) Mominee; and nephew, Kevin Mominee; and other nephews, nieces and dear friends; two grand-fur babies, Mia and Lila.
He is met in heaven by his dad, Edward Sr.; mom, Helen; brother, Johnny; in-laws, Jessie and Aupolene Stewart; brothers-in-law, Del and Dennis Stewart; and nephew, Keith Mominee.
