Edward Medina

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Edward Medina Jr. of (Defiance, Ohio) who passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2025. He was only 71 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Although he had been ill for a few months they hoped for a full recovery. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page.

Edward Medina Jr. was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Edward was born on December 3, 1953, in Napoleon, Ohio at Heller Memorial Hospital.

Edward is survived and missed by his loving wife Carla Medina of 21 years, and his children, Kenya (Rafael),Cedazhsa , London, and Layla. Forever cherished and remembered by his four grandchildren, Mercedez, Deuce, Kyle, and Makai. One great grandchild, Emrys. Siblings and their families; Sister Simona (Tom) Knight, Mary Hornish, Virginia Price, Linda (Chris) Plank, Rita (Juan) Jaramilla, brothers-in-law Lemuel Carl Ligon Jr, and Shermaine Ligon, special friends Woody Andrews and Cisco Rodriguez ,a host of other loving family members and dear friends.

Edward was predeceased by his father Edward Medina Sr., and his mother, Delores Medina, his sister Hope Mattin, his brother Daniel Medina, Son, Eric Vance. He was also predeceased by his two brothers-in-law Daniel Hornish and Ed Price, and best friend Larry Sparks.

Edward found great joy in spending time with his family and was deeply dedicated to them. He took an active role in the lives of his children by caring for them, providing for them and attending many sporting events they were involved in. Edward was known for being a very outspoken individual.

Edward worked for 42 years for General Motors Powertrain and retired from the Defiance location in 2018. He was a very hardworking dedicated employee. He was very proud of his job. Edward enjoyed volunteering at St. Marys Church in Defiance for various activities to include food drives. He was a huge Michigan Wolverines fan and enjoyed watching sports and was an avid reader.

He will forever be in the heart of his wife and best friend Carla Medina, and his legacy will carry on forever through his children and grandchildren. The family is comforted in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering and in Gods heavenly care.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our friends and family who were there for us during this difficult and emotional time.

Viewing at Newcomer Funeral and receptions West Sylvania Chapel 3655 King Rd, Toledo, OH 43617 on Thursday December 11th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

A Mass to remember Edward Medina Jr. will take place at Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church at 210 E. Clinton St., Napoleon, Ohio 43545 on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10:30 am. The family will receive guests up until service starting at 9:30 a.m.

Interment to follow service at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
