Douglas J. Meyer

Douglas J. Meyer, age 65, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, at The Toledo Hospital. He was born June 30, 1961, in Toledo to Richard and Jane (Mennitt) Meyer.

Doug measured his life not in accomplishments, but in quality relationships.

Doug and his best friend and wife Patti, were married for 42 years, during which time he never ceased his devotion and commitment to her happiness. Always ready with encouragement and a hug, he cherished the time he was able to spend with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a safe place, and a source of comfort and unconditional love.

Although being with family remained his greatest pleasure, he also enjoyed tending his roses, road trips, walking through parks hand in hand with Patti, and sharing his knowledge of history with anyone who would listen; sometimes in rather lengthy detail.

Doug was known for being genuine, selfless, and kind, and, for as quiet as he could sometimes be, he was surprisingly funny; firing off dad jokes that made his family groan.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Patricia “Patti” Meyer; his children, Richard “Ricki” (Katie) Meyer and Kimberly “Kimmy” (Jake) Rush; grandchildren, Cody and Paige Meyer and Lilly Rush; siblings, Linda Newton, Steve (Pat) Meyer, Debbie Braun, Laura Meyer, Joe (Linda) Meyer, and brother-in-law, Noel Bush.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jane Meyer; his sister, Sandy Bush; and brothers-in-law, Rick Braun and Dave Newton.

Family and friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio, on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A service celebrating Doug’s life will begin at 2:00 p.m., immediately following visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Parks Foundation or the Arbor Day Foundation in Doug’s memory.
