Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Beakas

Dorothy "Dottie" Beakas, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 12, 1926, and lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Dottie was a graduate of St. Stanislaus Grade School, attended Scott High School, and graduated from Whitney High School with the Class of 1944. She worked at LaSalle for 12 years before dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker.

A devoted homemaker, Dottie took great pride in caring for her home and family. She found joy in cooking, especially preparing her favorite homemade soups for those she loved. She enjoyed spending her time working crossword puzzles, reading, knitting, crocheting, and volunteering during the annual rummage sales at Christ the King Catholic Church. A faithful and active member of Christ the King Parish for many years, her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was also a member of the Christ the King Altar and Rosary Society and the American Legion Post 642 Ladies Auxiliary.

Dottie cherished the time she spent with her beloved sister, Irene, and her mother, creating memories that remained close to her heart throughout her life. Dottie and her husband, Joe enjoyed watching their grandson, Jacob a few days a week when he was little, who affectionately named them “Joe Mama” and “Joe Papa”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Kajtaniak) Filipski; her husband, Joseph Beakas; her son, John Beakas; her sister, Irene Binkowski; and her brothers, Ed, Dan, and Joe Filipski.

She is survived by her loving children, David (Lori) Beakas, Lori (Tom) Bartley, James (Mary) Beakas, and Pamela (Tony) Barna. She was a proud grandmother to Rachel (Dr. Calvin) Harris, Matt (Katie) Beakas, Jacob Beakas, Jenna Beakas, Julia Beakas, Jayce Beakas, Blake Barna, Zach Barna, Tom (Allison) Bartley, Lara (Brian) Reed, and Erin (Mark) Krift. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Brynn, Emma, Kepler, Marigny, Charleson, Nicolette (Justin), Tommy (Megan), Ava, and John; and great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Mason, and Cassie.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her niece, Kathy Poore, for the companionship, kindness, and compassion she so lovingly shared with Dottie throughout the years. Her care and devotion were a source of great comfort and friendship. Also, to the staff and doctors of Kingston of Sylvania for their care they gave Dottie and the compassion shown to her family.

Friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, South Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Ln, Toledo, Ohio 43623 from 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations in Dottie’s name may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the donor’s choice.

Dottie's love for her family, her steadfast faith, and her caring spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in God's eternal peace.
