It is with great sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of Dorothy J. Burgess, beloved mother, cherished friend, and faithful servant of God, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 16, 2025.
Born on March 5, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio, she attended Libbey high school and later gained a passion in caring for others in the medical field. Dorothy had a passion for fashion, and did not play about her hair. In her free time, she loved to read, shop and spend time with her grandchildren. She dedicated her life to the service of her family and her faith.
She was a devoted mother to five wonderful children Dennis, Marvin Sr. (Latoyia), Shurita, Shawn Sr. and Tyrone Sr. Burgess and 12 grandchildren, Marvin Jr, Shanaeja, Deniesha, Jaden, Shawn Jr., Shalisa, Tyrone Jr., Kaylee, Winter, Carter, Tyrous and Anastacia, her sister Gloria Williams and brother Charles Williams and a host of family and friends. Through her love, guidance, and unwavering support, she shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy helped instill values of love, kindness, and compassion to all her loved ones.
She was a woman of deep faith; Dorothy J. Burgess had a profound connection to her beliefs. She was a faithful active member for many years at Worship Center Toledo led by Bishop Pat Mckinstry. Her life was centered on God, and her faith guided every decision she made. Whether it was through daily prayers, volunteer work at church, or sharing her wisdom with others, she lived her life as a testament to the power of faith and love. Her compassion and kindness touched everyone who crossed her path, and she was a beacon of light in times of darkness.
Dorothy Burgess was preceded in death by her husband Philip Burgess of 35 years, her mother Ollie Mae Williams, son Dennis McGee and her brother Edward Lee Williams, but she leaves behind a legacy that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit of love, faith, and strength will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Family and friends will be received at the Worship Center, 2210 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, immediately following visitation. Interment, Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo.
