Doris Jean Powell

Doris Jean Powell, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 10, 2026 surrounded by her caretaker, family, and friends. Doris was born in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Charlie Joe and Mary Lee (Prewitt) Powell on May 26, 1949.

Doris was the second of five children.

Doris graduated from Spencer Sharples High School in Holland, Ohio June 1968. She worked various jobs retiring from Toledo Public Schools.

Doris accepted Christ at an early age. Memberships at First Baptist Church, Holland, Ohio, Lane Missionary Baptist Church, Holland, Ohio, and later Greater St. John Church of God In Christ under leadership of Superintendent Johnny M. Hobbs II, singing in the choir and serving on the Usher Boards.  

In her leisure time, Doris enjoyed arts and crafts (making wreaths), sewing, gardening, bowling, and being the star of the show singing karaoke at family gatherings. She enjoyed bringing the family together and valued her lifetime friendships. 

She leaves to cherish her loving memory brothers, Sherman Sr (Gloria) Powell, Holland, Ohio, Robert Powell, Joe Powell, sister, Barbara Powell all of Toledo, Ohio. Several nieces, nephews, cousin, aunts and goddaughter, Reanna Barringer.

Friends and family will be received at Greater St. John Church of God In Christ, 2127 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 11:00 am-12:00 pm with a memorial service at noon.
