Listen to Obituary

Doris V. Lynch age 93 passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Doris was a lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio.

Born to Raymond and Edna (Merry) Stewart in 1933, Doris was the fourth child of this union and the only girl. She loved climbing trees, peddling papers, playing baseball with her brothers, and sneaking to watch movies at the Avalon theater. Her first movie was Gone with the Wind.

Doris leaves behind a beautiful living legacy: four generations of a family that knows how to love, support, and cherish one another because she showed us the way. Doris was known by many names, but her favorite was Nana. She was a grandmother to 17, a great-grandma to 22, and a great-great-grandma to 3. Over the years she cared for and welcomed a number of children into her home and into her life and counted them as bonus grandchildren. It did not matter who you were or your age, Doris would welcome you into her home as family and make sure you didn’t leave hungry. Before you would leave, she would point at you and say, “don’t take any wooden nickels”.

Doris and her husband, Larry, were active in the Sheriff’s Auxiliary and the Glass City CB Club, her CB handle was “Ding Dong” because she was also the local Avon lady. She sold Avon for over fifty-years making many connections and new friends along the way. Doris was a volunteer at heart, taking children home from the St. Anthony’s Villa for respite, helping with her daughter’s Girl Scout troops, and in her later years sitting on the board of Neighborhood Housing as Secretary.

Doris had many hobbies including collecting Shirley Temple memorabilia, watching Little House on the Prairie, and her love of genealogy, creating binders of the family’s history for several family members. But everyone knows her favorite hobby was collecting dolls…. LOTS of dolls. Doris loved to travel and camp with friends and family, sharing laughs, building memories, and singing around the campfire. Some of her favorite trips were to Englewood, Florida, Marysville to visit family and road trips to Maine and the Smoky Mountains with her son and daughter-in-law.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna; husband, Lawrence “Big Larry”; daughter, Linda; son, Lawrence “Little Larry”; siblings, William, Raymond, Harold, and Richard; son-in-law, Paul Peace; and dear friends, Lillian Dukeshire and Sheila Granata.

Doris is survived by her children, Beverly (Paul) Dernier, Kathleen Hendry, Candy Brower, and Douglas (Cathy) Lynch; son-in-law, Michael Newton; brother-in-law, Frank Lynch; sister-in-law, Nancy Stewart; and cousin and dear friend, Martha Rea.

Family and friends will be received at the Newcomer Funeral Home (Southwest Chapel) 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 3:00-8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elara Caring Hospice. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the tender care they provided to Doris and the family in her final months.
