With profound sadness, yet grateful hearts for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Donzell Shaw Sr., who entered eternal rest on January 30, 2026. Donzell was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, veteran, and friend whose life was marked by service, faith, and an unwavering love for family and community.

Donzell Shaw Sr. was born on December 2, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to Cleveland Lott and Overseer Willie Faye Stegall. He was nurtured and guided by the strong spiritual and family foundation laid by his grandparents, Ben Eddie Shaw and Missouri Shaw.

During his childhood and teenage years, Donzell was known for his vibrant spirit, undeniable style, and many talents. An excellent skater admired for his confidence and smooth moves, he carried himself with a rhythm all his own. Always sharp and impeccably dressed, you could count on him to step out in a perfectly coordinated outfit, topped off with a fedora to match.

A proud graduate of Macomber High School, Class of 1975, after graduating, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army.

Donzell honorably served in the Army 17 years. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany, Korea, Texas, Massachusetts, and Ohio, building lifelong friendships and a commitment to service. Following his military service, Donzell retired from both Amtrak and later Libbey Glass in Toledo, Ohio

On September 14, 1979, Donzell was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Patricia Louise Cole, whom he spent 33 years loving, and working her nerves in a way that only he could. Patricia preceded him in death, and their bond remains a cherished part of his legacy.

Donzell found joy in the simple yet meaningful pleasures of life. He loved golfing, took great pride in barbecuing for family and friends, and was happiest when bringing people together. His gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and fellowship.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: LaTasha (Branden) McCallister, Kesha Shaw, and Donzell Shaw Jr.; and his beloved grandchildren, Ke’Mari Donzell Shaw, Gia Glory McCallister, and Ka’Lani Cole Shaw who affectionately called him “PopPop”; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, family, and great friends.

Donzell is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joseph W. Scott. He is survived by his siblings: Patricia Kynard (Richard), Katherine Shaw, Raymond Scott (Renee), Sammie Coleman, Timothy Coleman (Nicole), Althea Coleman, and Jerimiah Coleman; his half-sister Laquette Lott, and half-brother Stevie Lott. He also leaves behind his siblings-in-law, Julie Cole (Vincent Cooke), Rochelle Hartfield, Robert James, and John Cole, who were an important part of his extended family.

Donzell shared a special bond with nieces Brenada Cole, India Smith, and Anijah Young, and his nephew Deri Hartfield, whom he lovingly referred to as “his kids” due to the time they spent under his care.

He will also be fondly remembered by his very special friend Janice Jones, and dear friends Lonzell Pryor, Luther Jones, and Teresa Taylor, whose companionship and friendship brought him joy throughout his life.

Donzell Shaw Sr.’s legacy of love, service, and family will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his earthly journey has ended and he now rests in God’s eternal peace.
