Donna J. Peters (Tate), born on June 4, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in her hometown of Toledo. She was 85 years old.
Donna’s life was one of unwavering love, generosity, and faith. A proud graduate of Whitney High School, she went on to dedicate over three decades of service to Libbey Glass before retiring. Her work ethic and commitment left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Donna was a devoted member of Lighthouse Community Church in Toledo, Ohio. She loved the Lord and found great joy in reading and teaching the Bible. Her involvement in the congregation was a cornerstone of her life and a reflection of her spiritual devotion.
Donna’s warmth extended far beyond her family circle. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued—treating all with kindness and respect regardless of background or circumstance. Many lovingly called her “Mom,” a testament to the nurturing spirit she shared so freely.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Richelle Davenport; stepdaughter Michele Peters; brothers James “Tony” Tate and Leslie “Rick” Tate; grandchildren Lavell Allen Jr. and his fiancée Mikaela, Tre'von Allen, and David Elston; great-grandchildren, Robert, La'Kaela, Lavell III and La'Nyiah; along with cherished lifelong friends, and many others whose lives were touched by her compassion.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Lucille Tate; Siblings Gail Tate, Patricia Williams, Ollie “Cupid” Tate, Luther Tate Jr., Shirley Hunter and daughter Gail R. Williams.
Her zest for life was evident in the things she loved: bowling nights filled with laughter, spirited card games with friends and family, dancing with joy in her heart, cooking delicious meals that brought people together, hosting unforgettable family gatherings, watching her favorite TV shows. What warmed Donna's heart the most was spending time with her daughters, grand and great grandchildren.
Donna J. Peters leaves behind a legacy of grace, strength, and boundless kindness. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew them and continue to inspire acts of love for generations to come.
The Memorial and Repass to celebrate Donna’s life will be held at: Payne Memorial AME Church with Pastor Shirley Lyons, 209 S. King Road, Holland, Ohio 43528 on Saturday May 17, 2025 from 11:00am – 3:00 pm.
