Donna E. Matthews

Donna E. Matthews, born on July 20, 1939, in Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Holland, Ohio. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth and humor touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Donna's personality shone brightly through her incredible sense of humor. She often remarked, "you gotta laugh," embodying a philosophy that delighted her friends and family alike. Donna was known for her kindness and sweetness, always cherishing the time she spent with her grandchildren. Her fondness for Chinese food and fried chicken was well-known among her family, and these meals were often occasions for laughter and cherished memories.

In her leisure time, Donna engaged in a range of activities that reflected her vibrant spirit. She was remarkable at games like Jeopardy and enjoyed playing Kismet and Euchre with her card club. She found joy in going to the mall, often seeking out the latest trends and sharing playful moments with those she loved.

Donna leaves behind her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Matthews, and wife Karen; her sons, Melvin Matthews Jr., Stephen Matthews, and Scott Matthews; her granddaughter, Jennifer Brewer, and husband Phil; her grandsons, Broc Matthews and wife Kaitom, Brent Matthews, Brandon Matthews, and Stephen Matthews Jr. and wife Sarah. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Olivia Matthews, Grayson Brewer, Sawyer Brewer, Rowan Brewer, Norah Brewer, Briar Brewer, Braxley Matthews, and Kaisley Matthews, and Beckham Matthews, each of whom brought her immense joy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary Jo Matthews, who passed away in 2015, and her parents, Josephine Smoot and Fred Mayes and the love of her life Melvin Matthews Sr. 

Donna E. Matthews will be remembered not only for her love of laughter and family but also for the indelible impact she made on the hearts of those around her. Her legacy of kindness and joy will continue to resonate within her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
