Donald B. Schaefer

Don Schaefer who was living in Lomita, CA for the last 55 years, passed away at Paradise House Care in Murietta, CA. He was 82 years old.

Don was born in Toledo, OH to George and Eleanor (Lemke) Schaefer, attended Stickney Grade School and graduated from Waite High School. His red Corvette was well known on the East Side, and he still had it when he died. After working in the family business, Miller and Schaefer Co., he joined the U.S. Coast Guard, returning to work for the Pure Oil Refinery.

In August 1970, he moved to California where he had several jobs then went to work for Paramount Studios as a film editor. His work included editing for the TV shows Happy Days, Cheers and Bad News Bears, as well as the movie Star Trek III. In later years, he ran a self-storage yard until he retired.

Don is survived by his brother, Fred (Beve) and his nephew, Doug (Maria) Schaefer and niece, Jenny (Dan) Troutner, both of Columbus, OH and their eight children.

The family would like to thank his landlords, Jeff and Stefanie Leece and his former boss, Pete Prestininzi, in the LA area for their care of Don in recent years.

He will be interred in Willow Cemetery in Oregon, OH next to his parents. Arrangements are pending.
