She served faithfully in the Nurses Guild and the Missionary Society, holding the offices of Secretary and Treasurer with diligence and devotion. Later in life, she united with Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Jesse Spears, where she graciously served on the Mother's Board.

Her legacy continues to live on in the hearts of those blessed to have shared in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Isaiah Moore; her son, Thomas Patrick Moore; her stepdaughter, Early Mixon; and her grandson, Donnell L. Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sister, Patricia Ann Carroll of Columbus, Ohio; her brothers, Charles Peterson, Jennis Peterson, and Shepard Peterson, all of Brooklyn, New York; special nephew Norman (Tonya) Peterson and James (Renatta) Peterson of Columbus, Ohio; her stepdaughter, Delores Kelly; bonus grandchildren Coresa Harris, Corey Harris, and Cornell Harris; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, step-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.
Dessie also shared a special bond with her cousins Zonia Sherman, Darnell Redman, Deborah Sherman-Hunter, and Karen Sherman-Sorina, whose love and support enriched her life.
