Dennie Joy McDonald, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in his hometown. Born on February 16, 1943, in Toledo, Dennie lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, hard work, and a love for simple joys.

Dennie was the beloved husband of Brenda (Nauman) McDonald. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to his four children: Brad (Deanna) McDonald, Jason (Amy) McDonald, Erin (Anastacio) Gilbert, and Christopher (Ashley) McDonald. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren: Christopher Covert; Kaylee Van Wormer; Tristan (Taylor Spencer) McDonald; Liam (Kayla Brown) McDonald; Andrea (Dan Rollins) McDonald; Patrick McDonald; Sarah Gilbert; Anastacio Pryce Gilbert; Carson McDonald; and Graham McDonald. Dennie also took great pride in his six great-grandchildren: Colin Covert; Teagan Covert; Amelia Saba; Avery Hoffman; Rory McDonald; and Ronnie Jae Hoffman.

Dennie is survived by his brother Tom (Loretta) McDonald and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. and Dorothy L. McDonald, as well as his siblings Orah (Charles) Truckee; Edward (Lois) McDonald; Beatrice (Frederick) West; Norman McDonald; Donald Jake (Arvilla) McDonald; Wesley (Cherie) McDonald; Joanne (Donald) Stucker); Gerald (Shirley) McDonald; and Bruce (Linda) McDonald.

Known for his easygoing and laid-back personality, Dennie brought warmth and kindness to those around him. His strong work ethic was a defining trait throughout his life—a quality that inspired both family and friends alike.

In his leisure time, Dennie enjoyed bowling and golfing—activities that brought him joy and camaraderie. A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, he found happiness following the team’s games over the years.

Dennie's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy of love for family and dedication to life's simple pleasures bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Calling hours will be held on July 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4150 Laskey Road in Toledo immediately followed by a graveside service at the Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
