Debra A. Smith

Debra A. Smith, lovingly known as Deb, passed away on September 2, 2026. She was born on January 20, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio.

Debra was a caring, giving, and strong-willed woman who loved life and was always there for her family and friends. Her warmth and steady presence touched those around her in lasting ways, and she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely.

A 1971 graduate of Whitmer High School, Debra devoted herself first and foremost to her family. Before beginning her working career, she was a loving and proud stay-at-home mother to her son, Jason. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Job 1 USA and also served as a bookkeeper with the Clarion Hotels in Toledo. In every role she held, she brought dedication and care.

Debra found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved playing games on her phone, reading, and watching the Hallmark Channel. She especially enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday, making each season feel festive and welcoming. She also loved spending time at local beaches, places that brought her peace and happiness.

More than anything, Debra treasured her family. Being a wife, mother, and grandmother was among her greatest joys, and her grandchildren were truly her world, her pride, and her joy. The love she shared with them will remain a lasting gift in their lives.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jeff Smith; her son, Jason Smith and wife Cathleen; and her cherished grandchildren, Kacie Smith, Tara Smith, and Brady Smith. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Patton and husband Barry; her brothers, Jeff Lawecki and Dan Lawecki; her sister, Pam Lawecki; and her brother, Mark Lawecki, God daughters; Jessica Ruetz and Kellie Priessman. Each of them carries forward memories of Debra’s love, strength, and devotion to family along with many nieces, nephews, other loving extended family members and friends. 

Debra was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Lawecki, and her mother, Bernadine Lawecki.

Deb will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her life was marked by love, loyalty, and quiet joys, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she held dear.
