Deborah "Deb" Buck, a beloved figure in her community, left this world on August 13, 2025, at her place of birth, Toledo, Ohio. Born on March 5, 1953, to Betty and Charles Brewster, she carried with her a spirit that brought warmth and joy to all around her throughout her life.
Deb had a bright and engaging personality that drew people to her. A fun-loving woman, she was always ready with a good joke, an infectious smile, and a caring heart. Her family and friends knew her as a strong-minded and independent woman, full of compassion and a feisty spirit. Deb’s love for life was evident, whether she was crafting exquisite garments or sharing laughter with loved ones.
For many years, Deb worked as an Associate Manager at Joann Fabrics, where her passion for sewing flourished. She was a talented seamstress and crafter, making everything from intricate lace-like snowflakes to beautiful bridesmaids’ dresses. Among her proudest creations was the transformation of her daughter’s wedding dress into a stunning first communion dress for her granddaughter, exemplifying both her creativity and the deep love she had for her family.
While her professional accomplishments were noteworthy, Deb cherished her role as a mother and grandmother even more. She was dedicated to raising her four wonderful children—Jim Hirzel, Tim Hirzel, Kristie Gawle, and her step-daughter Jenna Filas—along with countless others, embracing her unofficial role as the honorary babysitter to many in her extended family and circle of friends. Her nurturing spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of her loving children and grandchildren.
Holiday get-togethers were particularly special for Deb, as they allowed for cherished moments full of laughter and love with family. Sharing these times reminded her of what truly mattered: connection, tradition, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Deb is survived by her devoted husband, Jeff Buck; her loving sons, Jim (Eric Anderson) Hirzel and Tim (Staci) Hirzel; her daughter, Kristie (Scott) Gawle; stepdaughter, Jenna Filas; her brother, Gerald (Janet) Brewster; and her sister, Diane (Jeff) Johns. She held a special place in her heart for her cherished pet, Ginger, and extended her affections to many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Deb is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Brewster (nee Wilson), her father, Charles Brewster, and her aunt, Rosemary Fairchild. Their memories live on through her family, who honor her legacy with every stitch made, every joke shared, and every holiday celebrated together.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation and funeral service that will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo on August 24, 2025.
