David T. Nero, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 24, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio, at the age of 70. Born on January 23, 1956, David was a lifelong resident of Toledo, where he cultivated a warm and welcoming presence that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
For over 20 years, David was employed by Schneider as a truck driver, showcasing a remarkable dedication to his career. He later joined Pointe Dedicated, where he continued to thrive until his retirement in 2025. David often reminisced about the time he proudly drove one million miles without an accident, a testament to his hard-working nature and commitment to excellence.
Beyond his work, David's zest for life was palpable. He cherished the memories created during family vacations, embarking on road trips across the United States with his loved ones. His generous spirit and laid-back personality made every moment spent with him enjoyable, whether he was cheering on the Detroit Tigers and the Buckeyes or enjoyed playing poker, as well as going with friends to the Legion.
A proud veteran, David served in the U.S. Army, embracing the values of service and camaraderie that would shape his life. He was known for his stubbornness, yet equally for his friendliness and social nature, qualities that endeared him to many.
David's family was his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his children, Jeff, Josh, and Lindsay Nero, as well as his step-children, Liz (Jon) LaRocca and Walter Gray. His grandchildren, Jayden, Alexa, Isabella, Mackenzie, Aubrey, Connor, and Destinee, filled his life with love and laughter, alongside his great-grandson, Casey. David also leaves behind his brothers, Johnny, Joey, and Tom, who, along with his extended family and friends, will forever cherish the memories they created together.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey; his parents, Geza and Veronica Nero; and his sister, Diane. Their memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, reminding all of David’s generous heart and spirit.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate David's life during the visitation on February 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. A graveside service will be held in his honor on February 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43606.
David will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue through the stories shared and the love imparted to his family and friends.
