David O. Lechner

September 22, 1943 — August 6, 2025

Holland, Ohio

David O. Lechner, born September 22, 1943, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, after a short illness. He grew up in south Toledo and graduated from Libbey High School. David served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician until his 21st birthday and then attended Ohio State University.

Thirty years of David’s working career were as part of the U.S. Geological Water Survey through the University of North Dakota. He had many friends in Grand Forks, N.D., but on retirement returned to Toledo and the family home on Wildwood Blvd.

David had the kindest of hearts and was always thinking of others. He would often go to great lengths and distances to offer a hand to friends and family in need. His generosity and selflessness had such a positive impact on those around him and especially his nephews growing up. Each year he had a fine garden and loved cooking and hosting friends around the table. He loved reading and classical music and was a joy at family holidays. He also had a knack for all things mechanical and electrical and could repair just about anything.

David was preceded in death by his parents William Dayne and Susie Rainier Lechner. He is survived by his fellow triplet siblings, sister Effie Sue Kemerley (Robert T.) and brother Daniel R. Lechner (Patty J.); also, nephews Jeffrey D. Kemerley (Rhea) and Joseph R. Kemerley (Sarah), two great-nephews Dayne and Graham Kemerley, and a great-niece Kaiya Kemerley.

The family wishes to thank the many friends who offered love and support for David during his final illness. At David’s request, there will be no funeral service. Burial to be determined.
