David C. Joshua Sr., affectionately known "Dave," was born on December 3, 1951, in Banks, Arkansas. He began his life on a small farm named "Banks" before moving with his family to Toledo, Ohio, in 1966. From a young age, Dave demonstrated a passion for sports, especially football, excelling during his time at Edward Drummond Libbey High School where he garnered several awards and trophies, inspired by a cousin who played the game.
Upon graduating high school, he furthered his education by attending trade school, where he earned a state-certified Millwright degree. Dave dedicated his career to the community, working at Davis-Besse, the Fifth-Third Banking Center in downtown Toledo, OI Building and for 10 years at the City of Toledo Water Reclamation Plant in maintenance until he retired early following an unfortunate accident.
Dave had a passion for woodworking and was known for his remarkable skill with his hands. His love for life extended beyond his craftsmanship, as he was also a devoted fan of Michigan football, sharing his enthusiasm for the game with those around him.
Dave passed away on September 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian Joshua; his sons, David C. Joshua Jr. and Brandon A. (Cine E. Sanders) Joshua; his granddaughter, Alexandra Joshua; step-children Alyssa (John) Buckner, Constance Coleman, Austin (Alazae) Coleman, Skylar (Darlene) Walker, Christina Walker; and 23 grandchildren along with special granddaughter Carmen; step-daughter BreeAnne Dixie; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Scott (Kathy) Joshua, James K (Cecelia) Joshua, David (Anita) Wine; sisters Ella Linda Joshua, Mary McCormick, Carrie (David) Garner, Paula R. (Robert) Williams, JieLee Johnson; his auntie, Vivian Jean (Bill) Franklin; brothers-in-law John Fowler and Leonard Fowler; sisters-in-law Valorie, Nazzarah Bey, Sandra Hutchinson, Sharon Mabrey; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and his best friend, Glenn Kynard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David C. and Naomi Joshua; brothers Samuel Joshua, Leroy Joshua, and Lemont Wine; sister-in-law Carmen Fowler; and his best friend, Kenny Jones, who passed on Dave's birthday, as well as cousin Joseph Webb.
A visitation to honor Dave's remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. A second visitation will follow on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3232 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo, OH 43607.
David C. Joshua Sr. will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who loved him.
