David A. "Dave" Carner

David A. “Dave” Carner, born February 10, 1963, to David E. Carner and Winona Thomas, passed away surrounded by his family on September 25, 2026.

Dave was stubborn, hardworking, and unapologetically himself in every aspect of his life. He took the motto “live each day like it was your last” to heart. Popeye was his hero, and “I am what I am” described Dave about as perfectly as anything could.

His kids often joked that he had nine lives like a cat and somehow, he seemed determined to prove them right. He made it through more than his fair share of close calls over the years and even made it to at least his third cat.

Dave was a fix-it-all master mechanic who knew his way around any garage or junkyard. He was just as talented with woodworking and loved building anything he could, especially when his daughter or granddaughters asked him to make something for them. From classic cars to RollerCoaster Tycoon, Dave enjoyed the things he loved and lived life on his own terms, in his own way even if those terms were questionable at best.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Timothy and Michael; and his nephew, Roy Scott.

He is survived by his children, Christopher Carner, Amanda (Derek) Weissenberger and Steven (Shaun) Carner; his granddaughters, Serina and Alexandria; his sisters, Vickie (Terry), Florence “Toddie,” and Jayne; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and the many people he called friends.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the hospice team and the staff at The Willows at Oregon for the care and compassion they provided to Dave and his family. In the words of Popeye, “I am what I am.” And Dave certainly was.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, Ohio 43623. Friends and family are invited to join together to remember and celebrate the life of Dave.
