Darlene Susan Baird

Darlene Susan Baird, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away on May 11, 2026, in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born on January 10, 1942, Darlene lived a life marked by her strength and independence.

Darlene was a 1960 graduate of Clay High School and later attended Stautzenberger College. She was employed by St. Vincent Medical Center and celebrated her retirement after 35 years of dedicated service. She began her career as a nurse’s aide in the Cardiovascular ICU and over the years transitioned into many different roles, including secretary for Respiratory Therapy, food service worker for the Dietary Department, dispatcher for Security, and receptionist for the Emergency Room. At her retirement celebration, her colleagues described her as a loyal friend and someone who went above and beyond to help others. 

Darlene enjoyed spending time crocheting countless afghan blankets and dearly loved her dogs, Teddy and Max. She shared a close relationship with her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nanny”. She cherished time spent with them as they grew up and attended each of their sporting events as their biggest fan.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary Blase, and her sister, Dolores Richie. She is survived by her children, William Karcsak and Karen Baird; grandchildren, A.J. (Cassandra) Rosinski, Isaiah Baird, Nicholas Baird, and Amber Rosinski; great-grandchild Adeline Rosinski; sister, Barbara (Terence) Gorski; nieces, Karen (Robert) Hightower and Theresa Richie; nephews, Jim Richie, John Richie, and Brian Gorski; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Darlene’s family and friends will gather to honor and remember her life on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, Ohio, 43623. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery, located at 3550 Walbridge Rd., Millbury, Ohio, 43447.
