Daniel F. Paszko 99, surrounded by love, passed peacefully from this life on Monday September 18, 2023, to join his beloved wife Helen and young son Denis, in God's heavenly kingdom.
As part of the greatest generation, Daniel proudly served his country in World War II. Seeing duty in Normandy, Eastern Europe and Rhineland. He was a member of both V.F.W. post 642, and the 14th ward. He worked and retired as a senior pipefitter from the Columbia Gas Company.
As a young man Daniel was an outstanding athlete and played minor league baseball in the Saint Louis Cardinals organization. Later he excelled on several winning city and state fast pitch softball teams. In 1953 he was named to the A.S.A. softball All-State Team. Daniel was an avid and excellent bowler and with his wife Helen bowled in many Mom and Pop leagues. He also liked to tell how as a young boy he worked in the bowling alley as a pinsetter. Daniel loved and enjoyed his sports. Whether attending an event live, or watching on television. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Notre Dame footballs teams.
Playing cards (or giving lessons as he'd like to say) was a passion of his and something he very much enjoyed. He was also a bit of a night owl staying up late to watch his old cowboy and western TV shows.
These late nights often included sweets and can of pop-or snacks as he liked to call them. His sharp mind, wit, and unmatched sense of humor have left us all with many funny and treasured memories.
Daniel (or Grampa) as he was affectionally called by all was truly loved and revered by his grand and great grandchildren. He attended many of their sporting and school events taking great delight in all their accomplishments.
Daniel was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen, young son Denis, and grandson Danny. Also preceding him were his parents Virginia and Fabian, sisters Dorothy and Alice, brothers David, Kenny, Thomas, and Robert. Left to cherish the memories of Daniel are his son Donald (Karen), daughters Darlene, Diane, and Denise along with many grand and great grandchildren.
Daniel led and lived a truly happy, long, active, and amazing life. We were all blessed to have had him in our lives for as long as we did. Though he will be deeply missed he will remain dearly loved and forever in our hearts.
