Damon A. Russell Jr.

Damon Alan Russell, Jr. affectionately known as “Pooh Bear” was born December 11, 1993 in Toledo, Ohio to Damon A. Russell Sr. and Tamika V. Cable. He was the eldest of his siblings and to know Damon is to love Damon.

He graduated from Achieve Preparatory Academy in 2012. He found and loved Christ at an early age. Damon's favorite pastime was spending time with family, watching sports, hooping, and gaming. When you saw Damon he always had a smile on and a basketball or a controller in his hand; he was great at both!

Damon was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan "Steelers City" and a LeBron James fan. He loved his family and he would always say "Family First". Damon worked at Wolf Creek in the kitchen, as a laborer in different factories for several years and at UPS as a Carrier for two years. During Covid, Damon fell ill, but with help and support from his family and prayer, he was able to get back on track.

To continue Damon's Legacy are his parents; godmother, Tasha Wade; siblings, Day'Vonta, Day'Shawn, Nokamis, and Damonta Russell, Antonio Jr., and Tonenyah Gilmer; bonus siblings, Ka'shawnna, Tageona, Tayvon, KaShawn, Tywaun, LaNautica, DaNautica, and Key'Lliyah Gilmer; nephews, Ashton and Logan Russell, Antonio Gilmer lll, and Kingston; godsisters; Kim and Kiana McKanney; grandparents, Beverly Edmonds and Willie Cable Sr.; great-grandfather, special friend and neighbor, Van and Hope; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Damon is preceded in death by his bonus father, Antonio Gilmer, Sr.; grandparents, Charles Russell Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Rev. Rudolph and Evangelist Shirley Sutton; great-grandparents, Sandra Hughes, Benjamin Belcher, Oretha (Wade) Draper, Walter Cable Sr. and Bonnie Johnson; and aunt, Shawn Smith.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Damon at a visitation to be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Corinth Baptist Church located at 2283 Putnam St, Toledo, OH 43620. Funeral services will be begin at 12:00 PM following the visitation with burial to follow.
