Clara met and married the love of her life, Ivory Eugene Patterson, and through their union, three sons were born, Terry, Larry, and Steve. Clara was a homemaker for many years, but eventually worked at the Post Office and through her love for people, became employed at Lyman W. Liggins Senior Center as a driver. Her most memorable experience was working at the YMCA's battered women's shelter. Clara went back to college and received her degree in Social Work.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Oliver Whitaker; husband, Ivory Eugene Patterson; son, Steve V. Patterson; sisters, Charlotte J Vining, Connie J. Saine and Carolyn J. Trench; special aunts, Bernice, Sallie, and Hallie.

Her work at the YMCA's battered women's shelter was especially commendable, as she provided support and care for those in need in the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Clara's legacy of love and service will live through her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched.
