Clara Ann Jones, a cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on April 13, 1948, in Murray, Kentucky, Clara’s life was marked by an unwavering love for others and a commitment to her family and community.
Clara was a proud graduate of Scott High School and dedicated much of her life to caring for her family. She also graduated from Stautzenberger College as a Medical Assistant. As a homemaker, she created a warm and nurturing environment that welcomed many, often ensuring that everyone had a full belly and a safe place to rest. Beyond her role at home, Clara embraced various opportunities throughout her career, which included selling Avon, working at NODC, and serving at Stanley's Restaurant. Her giving heart and love for people formed the cornerstone of her personality, as she consistently sought to uplift those around her.
A member of Grace Temple Church, Clara extended her kindness and compassion well beyond her immediate circles. Her legacy is one of warmth and generosity, as she took everyone in, embodying what it means to truly care for others.
Clara was married in 1978 to her loving husband, Jerry Jones, who sadly passed away in February of this year. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and support. Clara is survived by her children, Eva Reasonover (Derrick), Katrina Neal, and Dionne Rowlett along with her grandchildren, Jordan, Shawn, William, Antonio, Janice (Ray), Tashemia, Tasheala (Unique), and Carmella Johnson-Collier, and a remarkable 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six sisters: Christine Jones, Denise Freeman (Roosevelt), Luella D. Spears, Dorthy Veley (Marcas), Myra M. Douglas Green (Plez Gardner), and Shawn Douglas, as well as five brothers: Joe JD Jones (Cherri), Robert Douglas, and Arnold Nelson. Clara’s memory will also live on through a host of nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, parents, Sarah and Constance Rowlett, her son, Shawn Rowlett, stepdaughter, Carmetta Collier; and her brothers, Ronald, Nelson, and Kenny Nelson. Her absence is felt deeply by all who knew her.
As we celebrate the life of Clara Ann Jones, we express our heartfelt gratitude to First Health Hospice, particularly to Tonya, Monica, and cousin Steve Reamey, for their compassionate care during her final days.
