Chester “Chet” Bodi passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Center on December 27, 2025 after a short illness. Chet was 86 years old and would have turned 87 on January 18, 2026. He grew up the son of a farmer in Jerusalem Twp and graduated from Clay high school in 1957 where he participated in FFA and was statistician for the basketball team. He attended Davis Business College where heearned a junior accounting degree. He served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1962 at Fort Knox, KY followed by the reserves until 1966. He met his wife Joanne (Juhasz) while wandering through an east Toledo drug store where she was working and they went on to be married and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past July. Chet was a volunteer firefighter for the Walbridge-Lake Twp Fire Dept for many years while living in Walbridge and was named a lifetime honorary firefighter on his retirement. Having a gift for working with numbers, he spent many years working in the office for the Strong Electric Corporation until the closing of their Toledo plant. He went on to serve as office manager for Ottawa Rubber Company until his retirement. Chet loved being a “girl dad” to his 3 daughters and gave his time and efforts to their activities including high school band, school projects, moving them to and from college, and anything else he thought he could help with. He loved playing golf in his later years and when he couldn’t play anymore, he enjoyed following the LPGA- even taping the tournaments to enjoy. He loved watching Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football and his gift with numbers made him a tough Euchre opponent. He was a gentle soul and a man of few words, but he had a wry sense of humor and always seemed to have a “dad joke” waiting to be sprung on unsuspecting victims. To his family, these were known as “Curtice jokes”-a salute to the area where he grew up. Chet is preceded in death by his parents David “Pete” and Mary (Eby)Bodi, his brother Donald, sister Shirley, his oldest daughter Marianne Martin, his son-in-law Stephen Wisinski, and his grand dog, Chloe. Surviving to enjoy the wonderful memories he leaves are his wife Joanne, daughters Dr. Shirley Bodi and Francine Wisinski, grandsons Matthew Martin and Benjamin Wisinski, grand dogs Denver and Mattie, his brother Robert(Phyllis), and his sister Elaine Jackson (Daniel). Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3655 King Rd. on Friday, Jan 9, 2026 from 2pm-7pm with a service at 6pm. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at the Ebied Hospice Center for the wonderful care they gave to Chet and ask that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
