Celia L. (Grimshaw) Ortiz, age 73, of Toledo passed on June 4, 2026, unable to recover from Emergency/Major Surgery. Celia passed away while looking at her life’s love, her husband Ismael Rey Ortiz, after 35 years of a wonderful, unforgettable marriage.
Celia was born in Detroit, Michigan, and she pursued the highest academic goals. Celia achieved a Ph.D. in Systems, Industrial and Mechanical Schools of Engineering at University of Michigan and University of Toledo, as well as having been published internationally.
Celia was extremely intelligent, thorough, disciplined and determined, and held positive goals within her sights. Celia ultimately retired from Ford Motor Co. World Headquarters, Dearborn, Michigan.
Celia’s loves at home were books, coffee, knitting and all God’s Creatures, especially her precious cats. Celia loved watching her Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions too.
Celia is survived by her beloved husband Izzy, who was holding and protecting her until the end. She is also survived by her Stepdaughter Jamie Ortiz Houston (Jeremy), five grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and extended members of her loving Ortiz family. Celia is also survived by her sister Edna Grimshaw Semler (John) and Sister in Law Laura Grimshaw, widow of Gary Grimshaw, Celia’s brother previously deceased. Celia was also preceded in death by her parents Marjory (Van Cleave) Grimshaw and John B. Grimshaw.
The Memorial Service and visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, The service will include a brief Ladies Auxiliary Ceremony conducted by VFW Post 2898.
Celia was a life member of John Lyons VFW Post in Arlington, Virginia.
All services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Animal Shelter, 640 Wyman Road, Toledo, Ohio 43609, in honor of Celia's love and compassion for animals.
