Carolyn Clay-Brown was born July 27, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Eddie Rowland Sr. and Nannie Williams. She passed away, peacefully, on February 28, 2026 at Addison Heights Care Center.
She graduated from Scott High School in 1966. Carolyn held various jobs including a Bank Teller for Toledo Trust, Manager for McDonalds, and Cereal Packager for General Mills. She was employed with General Mills until she was injured while on the job.
At an early age, Carolyn accepted Christ. She was a faithful member of 30+ years at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined. Carolyn was in the choir, The Missionary Society, and the Nurses Guild. When she wasn't active in the church, Carolyn was active outside of the church. She was a member of The Interfaith Mass Choir under the leadership of the late, Derrick Roberts. She read her Bible daily and faithfully.
Carolyn was preceded in death by both parents; father, Eddie Rowland Sr.; mother, Nannie Williams; brother, Eddie Rowland, Jr.; sister, Kathleen Grady and a special brother-in-law, Vashawn DeBoe.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Terry (Bryan) Clay-Spears; sons, Keith and Kevin Washington; six grandchildren; special granddaughter, Teresa Clay; 10 great-grandchildren; special great-granddaughter, Nevaeh King; sister, Loretta DeBoe; brother, Phillip (Travail) Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks to the nurses at Addison Heights: Misty Kohlhofer, Amanda Joven, Kelly Jackson, Chelsea Smith, Sharell Calhoun, LaToya Pearson, and Katie Mann, including the nurses aides, Kyia Marsenburg, Dawn Hopkins, LaTasha Warren-Brown, Alex'zia Toyer, Emeri Mitchell, Sheila Jackson, and Michael Taylor. Also, a special thanks to Mom's team at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Family and friends will be received at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, 954 Belmont Ave, Toledo on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM. Services will be held at the church following the visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial to immediately follow.
