Carol Anderson-Simms, age 83, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully and comfortably in her sleep at her home on Sunday, October 25, 2026. She was born on March 21, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late George Ray and Laura Francis Knowles, and grew up in the Lucas County Children's Home in Maumee, Ohio, which later became the Miami Children's Home.
Carol graduated from Woodward High School, class of 1951. For more than 30 years, she worked at Haas-Jordan in Toledo as a fabric cutter and umbrella maker.
On May 19, 1989, Carol married Floyd Simms, who was her rock. The two were partners in life and business. Together they ran Mr. Plaster, Floyd's well-known model railroading company, which made scenery items for train layouts. Carol shared in the world of trains that Floyd loved, from the home layout they opened for tours during the National Narrow Gauge Convention to its feature in the centerfold of Model Railroader magazine. If Floyd was the craftsman, Carol was the one who kept the company running. She was his right hand, though really she was Floyd's left hand, because MS had taken his left side. She brought his realistic designs to life on the assembly line and made sure every part of Mr. Plaster ran smoothly.
Carol loved her family, especially her two sons, Donald and Jonathan, and the many children in her life. She was a devoted member of the local PT Cruiser Club, loved her dogs, and never passed up an ice-cold Coca-Cola. She also collected Coca-Cola memorabilia. Her favorite movie was Pretty Woman, and she was always up for a Lifetime movie. She especially treasured her little community at Convent Park Apartments and Lourdes University, and she was surrounded by many great friends. Carol was never afraid to tell you how she felt, and she always had a smile on her face, even in the toughest of times. We can thank her older brother, Ralph, for her witty sense of humor and punny wordplay; before she met Floyd, he was her inspiration and best friend. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts and souls of all who knew her.
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her children, Donald Anderson and Jonathan (Karolina) Anderson; stepchildren, Cheri (Cindy Ginter) Simms, Pam (Kirk) Gossett, and Keith (Sarah) Simms; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd Simms, in 2022; her parents, George Ray and Laura Francis Knowles; brother, Ralph Ray; and sister, Francis Ray.
No services will be held. The family will gather for a small private ceremony to reunite Carol and Floyd in their final resting place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, where they will share a memorial mausoleum in the Chapel of Peace, Section CB.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, by visiting www.nationalmssociety.org.
And in Carol's memory, the family asks that you turn on "Gloria" by Laura Branigan, turn up the volume, and dance, smile, and think of Carol.
Carol loves you; she is now in Heaven and at peace.
