Carlos Ricndo Guerrero, a man whose life was marked by dedication, love, and hard work, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on December 4, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas, Carlos lived with a spirit of kindness and generosity that touched the lives of all who knew him.
A proud veteran, Carlos served his country with honor as a paratrooper in the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, as he devoted a substantial portion of his life to his craft as a union painter. From the moment he left the military until his retirement, Carlos was a steadfast member of the Local #7 Painters Union. His skilled hands brought color and life to countless buildings, both locally and out of state. His family often heard stories of his work, proudly pointing out the places he had painted through the years—a tangible legacy of his labor and dedication.
Carlos was much more than his profession. He was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. He frequently attended daily Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church on Cherry Street, finding solace and strength in his faith. When not at Mass, he could often be found enjoying a quiet moment over coffee at McDonald’s, a simple pleasure that brought him contentment.
His love for family was profound. Carlos embraced his role as a father and grandfather with great joy, cherishing every opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow and flourish. He was known to be loving, yet unafraid to offer gentle correction when he felt it was needed—a testament to his deep care and his desire to guide those he loved on the right path. His kindness extended to the creatures of the earth as well; he loved animals and often delighted in feeding the birds, a small act that reflected his generous nature.
Carlos’s passions outside work included traveling, camping, attending air shows, and pow wow’s, experiences that enriched his life and added to his tapestry of memories. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, pursuits that connected him with the natural world and provided him with both challenge and peace.
He is survived by his devoted children: Julie Thomas and her husband Timmy, John Guerrero and his wife Angela Renee, and Christina “Tina” Daniel, step-son, Anthony Crews. His loving grandchildren—Steven Crews, Angela Byndom, Jessica Gow, Christian Fontenot, Brianna Thomas, and Dillon Thomas, —along with a host of great-grandchildren, cherished extended family members, and special friends, carry forward his legacy of love and resilience.
Carlos was predeceased by his beloved grandson Angel Guerrero and was the last to pass among his siblings: Lorenza Olivio, Juanita Davila, Miguel Guerrero, Andreita Guerrero, Manuela Gonzales, Tomasita Martinez, Apolonio Guerrero, Benito Guerrero, and Inez Rodriguez. Their memories live on in his heart and in the hearts of all who remember him.
The community will gather to celebrate Carlos’s life beginning with visitation on May 21, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH. A second visitation will be held on May 22, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH. Following this, a Mass in his honor will take place at 11 a.m. in the Cathedral. Carlos will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St, Sylvania, OH, with a burial service commencing at 12:45 p.m. with military honors.
