Carlo Fanelli

Dearest son, beloved brother, true friend, loving husband, trusted brother in law, cherished uncle, devoted grandfather and, to his children, their hero.

Carlo Fanelli, 94, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Toledo. He was born in Bari, Italy, on December 16, 1931, the third child in a family that would eventually include eight children. He spent his youth surrounded by brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends, developing street smarts, book smarts, great humor and wisdom.

He had an open mind, a deep love for nature, a passion for learning, and an infectious joy for living. Philosopher, teacher, peacemaker, storyteller - he left an indelible mark on all those who knew him.

Carlo is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Grazia; children, Arcangelo (Theresa) and Maddalena; grandchild, Kaia; siblings, Caterina, Tonia (Mario), Vanda (Nicola), Mario (Rosa), Tommaso (Anna); and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria; parents, Arcangelo and Maria; and brothers, Vincenzo and Italo.

Friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. A private family service and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carlo's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
