Listen to Obituary

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Calvin Guziolek, age 23, of Toledo, Ohio, who left this world far too soon on September 3, 2025. He would have celebrated his 24th birthday later this month.

Calvin was born on September 29, 2001, and from the beginning, he carried a gentle and loving spirit. His heart was pure, his smile contagious, and his kindness touched everyone he encountered.

Calvin cherished his German heritage and was a proud member of the Bavarian Club. He taught himself to play the accordion and loved to dance, joyfully sharing both at the German American Festival. He proudly marched in the parade, performed the whip demonstration, and was always eager to lend a hand wherever needed. This year’s GAF was one of his happiest times, and he was already looking forward to next year’s celebration.

Affectionately known as “Bubbs” by his family, Calvin was a natural protector—not just of those closest to him, but also of anyone in need of kindness or care. He had a way of looking out for others, even strangers, with quiet strength and compassion. He was also known for being a loving rule enforcer, always ready to offer gentle guidance (and sometimes a little backseat driving) to his siblings and family.

Calvin was a lover of quirky, obscure things and delighted in sharing fun factoids. He held an impressive knowledge of history, especially German history, and could pull out a fascinating fact at a moment’s notice. His German pride carried over into his festival traditions, where he enjoyed raising a beer—sometimes even a warm, thick, and bitter draft—because to him, it made the celebration all the more authentic.

He also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was loyal to his favorite meal at McDonald’s: two large frozen Coke slushies and two large fries. His family smiles now at how he never wavered from that order, as if it were its own honored tradition.

Calvin cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his mother, Traci (Ricky) Perry; his father, Michael (Tammy) Guziolek; his sister, Hailey; his step sisters Megan and Maddie; and his brother, Kyle. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandparents, Jan (Charles) Davis, Mike (Jan) Petz, Vicki Musgrove, and Rick (Kathy) Perry; his great-grandfather Richard Perry; and many aunts and uncles, including a special bond with his Great-Aunt Cheryl (George) Redmond. He held a unique tenderness for his great-grandparents and the elderly, always offering them devoted care and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Angie Perry, his great-grandparents Mohrbach and Petz, and his dear friend Carol.

A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 4–8 PM at Newcomer West Sylvania Chapel on King Road, with a service to take place at 6 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the beautiful soul of a young man whose time on earth was far too short.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to any charity, program, or organization listed or one of your choosing to honor Calvin's Legacy.

Though his earthly journey was brief, Calvin’s love, joy, humor, and pure heart leave an enduring legacy. His spirit will live on in the laughter of his family, the music of his accordion, the traditions he so proudly celebrated, and even in the frozen Coke and fries he so faithfully enjoyed. He is now at peace and forever cherished.
