It is with a heavy heart that we announce our dad, Burton "Burt" H. Skeels, has gone to be with his Lord on Monday, March 9, 2026.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 16, 1929, to Dudley K. and Eva (Slee) Skeels. He married the love of his life and best friend, Linda (vonKlinger) on September 19, 1956. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2008. Together they raised their three daughters, Lori, Jeni and Amy in Maumee, OH, who he supported and loved unconditionally.
Burt served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Berlin, Germany as an MP.
He retired from the Ohio Bell Telephone Company after working for them for over 40 years in various positions.
He has been a member of Park Congregational United Church of Christ since 1956.
Burt was a member of the Maumee Fire Department for 30 plus years and was part of the original EMT class.
He was initiated into Triad Lodge No. 708 F&AM (Free and Accepted Masons) in 1958.
Burt is survived by his brother, Dudley (Lee) Skeels; his three daughters, Lori (Rick) Renard and Jeni (Bob) Osborn, both of Maumee, and Amy Scherzer of Cardington, OH. His four grandchildren, Angie (Dave) White, Amanda Renard, Rachel Scherzer, Chris Scherzer; his five great-grandchildren, Alyssa (Nick), Carter, Ashton, Camryn and Austin, and a great -great-grandson, Kyler.
In addition to his wife of over 51 years, Burt was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Dorothy Sutkus and Ruth Hess and a special son-in-law, Tim Scherzer.
We would like to offer a special thanks to the Hospice staff, especially Kristina, Kyndra and Vanessa for over 4 months of care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place per Burt's request. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Maumee Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
