Bruce M. Szmania, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at The Toledo Hospital. Born on August 21, 1964, in Toledo, Bruce lived a life marked by personal passions.
Bruce had a passion for traveling, Bob Marley-which reflected his easygoing spirit and love for life, and cheering on his favorite sports teams- Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions.
Bruce was known for his playful sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh no matter the situation. He had a way of bringing joy and laughter to the people around him.
While he loved many things in life, nothing compared to the love he had for his children and grandchildren as well as his nieces and nephews. His grandchildren were truly the light of his life and brought him immense joy and happiness. Whether he was spending time with them, sharing stories, joking around, or simply enjoying their company, those moments meant everything to him.
Bruce is survived by a loving circle of family who cherished him deeply. His daughter, Lauren (Evan), and son, Michael, were the center of his universe. He was also a proud Papa to Mason, Maddox, Mila and Van. Bruce’s mother, Roberta, remains a treasured presence in the family, along with his siblings Kate, Monica (Gene), Sandra, Amy (Bill), and Sally (Dave). The legacy of family love continued with his nieces, Tiffany and Stephanie, and nephews Jared, Nathan, Aaron, Joe, Cale, and Travis. Bruce also shared a bond with numerous cousins who remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clemence “Clem”, and brother-in-law, Ron.
Bruce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family and friends, but the love, laughter, and memories he gave so freely will remain forever. Though he is gone far too soon, the impact he made on the lives around him and the memories he has created, will continue to live on every day.
