Brenda J. Elder

Brenda J. (Hobbs) Elder, 75, of Holland, OH passed away peacefully at home the morning of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, with her husband by her side. Brenda was born March 12, 1948, to Everett and Evelyn (Mays) Hobbs in Coeburn, VA. She moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio as a young girl. Brenda attended Scott High School, class of 1966. After high school she became a licensed cosmetologist. Brenda married her high school sweetheart Barry M. Elder on August 2, 1969.

In 1981, Brenda opened her own salon, Hair Moods, in Point Place, where she was the owner and operator for 15 years. She continued doing hair for another 25 years in Point Place at Ethel's Beauty Salon, which later became Texture Zone where she retired from in 2021.

Brenda was a loving wife, selfless mother, and supportive grandmother. She enjoyed watching her children's and grandchildren's school events and sporting games. Her family and friends were the light of her life. She touched so many lives and never met a stranger, she opened her heart and home to everyone. Hosting multiple holidays every year as well as the several weddings and graduation parties. Brenda loved working in her beautiful yard every spring planting flowers for all who visited to enjoy.

Surviving are her loving husband of 54 years, Barry; beloved daughter, Michaele (Chad) McCormick of Maumee; three sons, Tye (Kelly) Elder of Myrtle Beach, SC, Darrin (Ellie) Elder of Toledo and Dennis (Bobbi Jo) Elder of Sylvania; grandchildren, Alec (Caitlyn) Elder, Abbigale McCormick, Emma Elder, Libby McCormick, Logan McCormick, Nathan Elder, Eli Elder, Ian Elder, Jace Elder, Mason Elder, Baelynn Myers; great grandchildren, Beau Elder and Olive Elder; brothers, Bill Hobbs and Al (Tina) Hobbs; her sisters, Barbara (William) Bailey and Gale (Joseph) Hulderman; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was the honorary mom and grandma to so many that she cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bob Hobbs and Ron Hobbs and sister, Joyce Bailey.

The family will receive guests on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd, Toledo, where a Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Interment will
immediately follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
