Bettye Lou Odoms-Hutt, 84, of Toledo, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 1:20 a.m. Bettye was born on April 23, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late John and Lucil Odoms.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucil Odoms, and her ex-spouse, Morris Hutt, Sr. She leaves behind two children whom she loved dearly: her first-born son, Morris Hutt, Jr. (Patrice), affectionately known as "Manny," and her second-born daughter, Sherri M.Hutt-Grimes (Jeffrey).
She was a proud grandmother to Tellers III, Jeremy, Kenneth, Morrissa, Justin, Cordilla, Tony, Jalen, Hailey, and Lawshawn, and a beloved great-grandmother to Tellers IV, Madison, Kington, Kimora, and King Josiah ("KJ").
Bettye was a graduate of Scott High School, Class of 1960. She grew up active in the Third Baptist Church, where she was involved in the church choir and other ministries. Bettye's siblings were as follows: her brother, Gail, who preceded her in death, and her living siblings; Lauretta, Jean (Marilynn), Dorothy (Dot), Joey (Josephine), Johnny, Joyce, Anise, Pig (Robert), and Beau (Dennis Sr.)
Bettye was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was devoted to sending her tithes each month. She was also a member of a book club at West Chapel Church. In her later years, Bettye resided at Majestic of Perrysburg, a nursing and rehabilitation facility in Perrysburg, Ohio, where she spent her final days. She made many friends among the residents and staff, who loved her generosity and her heart for always trying to help someone.
Bettye passed away as a proud, God-fearing believer, who always said to "put God first." Her faith, generosity, and loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service for Bettye will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 12:00 p.m. at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43606.
