Betty J. Conrad, affectionately known as "Grandma," was a proud homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose heart was as grand as her beautiful garden. Born on February 29, 1928, in Bergoo, West Virginia, she spent her final days surrounded by love in Toledo, Ohio, where she peacefully passed on June 25, 2025.
Betty was a giving and loving woman whose nurturing spirit shone brightly through her many roles. As a devoted mother to five daughters – Sandra, Marlene, Marcia (Ray) Lindsey, Diana Tucker, and Danny Conrad – she tirelessly dedicated herself to raising a family that would bring her immense joy and pride. Her greatest accomplishment was not just cultivating an impressive garden that garnered the attention of Better Homes and Gardens but also nurturing those she adored. Her grandchildren, Blaine, Michelle, Tammy, Lisa, Bart, Tiffany, Alina, Chrissy, Tori, Amber, Anson, Mikey, Nina, Nichole, Jamie, and James, along with her 20 great-grandchildren, were the blossoms in her life’s garden, each cherished beyond words.
Betty’s green thumb and talent for cultivation allowed her to grow not only her prized flowers, particularly her beloved yellow roses, but also the bonds of love that rippled through her family. Memories of holidays spent together, especially Easter and Christmas, evoke a warmth that will linger in the hearts of her loved ones forever. Betty thrived on shopping trips with her family and shared her gift of creativity through her bead-working and cottage crafts, ensuring that her artistic spirit was always alive and cherished in her family.
Her strength and resilience were shaped by the significant loves and losses in her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, James Conrad, who stood by her through thick and thin. She was also greeted in eternity by her parents, Zada and Howard Weaver, and her cherished children, Frankie, Sherry, Margret, Darlene, and Linda Conrad. Each of them left an indelible mark on her heart, and their memories provided comfort even in her darkest moments.
A multitude of family members and friends surrounded Betty with love, showcasing the life she built and the relationships she nurtured. Visitation will be held on July 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH. Funeral services will take place the following day, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at Newcomer Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life deeply lived and profoundly loved.
Betty J. Conrad’s legacy will forever bloom in the hearts of those she leaves behind. The beauty of her garden reflects her soul – vibrant, loving, and filled with life. She will be profoundly missed but her spirit will remain interwoven within the very fabric of her family, an eternal testament to a life well-lived and love well-shared.
