Benedict J. Tanicala Jr.

Benedict J. Tanicala Jr., affectionately known as "Ben," passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on November 8, 1951, he lived a life full of passion and dedication, particularly in his career and personal interests.

Ben had a fulfilling career, having retired from Textile Leather, where he served as an information technology coordinator for several years. His dedication to his work was evident in the knowledge and skills he brought to his role, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism that many admired.

In addition to his professional pursuits, he was a proud graduate of Owens Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Information Technology, and he attended Macomber High School. Ben was a true sports enthusiast and particularly loved the Detroit Tigers. His passion for the game extended to coaching a little league baseball team, where he shared his love of the sport with young athletes. Furthermore, he found joy in golfing, achieving the remarkable feat of two holes in one during his golfing endeavors.

Ben cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Christian and Jesse, reveling in the moments that brought laughter and joy to their family. His interests extended beyond sports, as he also enjoyed video games and greatly valued the time spent with his family.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Christopher Tanicala, grandsons Christian and Jesse Tanicala, sister Paulette Rice, nephew Dennis Rice, and niece KC Rice Bellflower. In addition to his immediate family, Ben is remembered by a host of extended family and friends who will miss his warm spirit and kind heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict Tanicala Sr. and Mary Jane Tanicala, his son Craig Benedict Tanicala, and his sister Sandra San Socie.

A memorial gathering to honor and celebrate Ben's life will be held on August 16, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. Following the memorial gathering a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Danny's Café Rossford, located at 600 Dixie Hwy, Rossford, OH, 43460. 

Ben's legacy will always be cherished by those who knew him, as he made a positive impact on countless lives through his work, volunteer efforts, and the love he had for his family and friends.
