Barbara L. Stephens

Barbara Stephens, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 91.

Barbara was born on June 19, 1935, to Calvin and Ruth Lloyd. She was the youngest of three children and grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that would remain important to her throughout her life.

Barbara loved the Lord, and her faith was at the very center of who she was. She was a devoted member of Parkwood Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she enjoyed worship, fellowship, and praising the Lord. Barbara was never shy about giving God the glory. Through both the joys and challenges of life, she held firmly to her faith and was always grateful for God’s goodness and blessings.

Barbara had a warm and sociable spirit and genuinely enjoyed people. She loved talking, laughing, and spending time with people from all walks of life. Her ability to connect with others was one of the many qualities that made her special to those who knew and loved her.

Music also brought Barbara immense joy. She loved singing the old hymns, playing the piano, and filling her surroundings with songs of faith and praise. Music was another way she expressed the love for God that remained with her throughout her life.

Barbara was a dedicated employee of the Toledo Public School System, where she worked as an accounting secretary for many years. She faithfully served the school system until her retirement.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Stephens Sr, parents, Calvin Lloyd Sr., and Ruth Lloyd, her sister, Elouise Lawson and her brother, Calvin Lloyd Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Theresa Stephens; her son, Eugene Stephens (Aaren); her special nephew, Wayne Lawson (Loretta); special niece, Donna Cunningham; grandson, Thurmond Stephens; granddaughter, Carmilla Stephens; grandson, Lloyd Stephens and a host of family members, and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Theresa Stephens; her son, Eugene Stephens (Aaren); her special nephew, Wayne Lawson (Loretta); Donna Cunningham; and a host of grandchildren, family members, and friends.

Barbara’s family will remember her for her love of the Lord, her joyful spirit, her love of people, her music, and the faith that guided her throughout her life. Those who knew her will remember a woman who loved to praise God and who continually gave Him the glory.

Her life reflected a deep and enduring faith, and the hymns she cherished so dearly expressed the hope and comfort she carried in her heart.

Barbara will be laid to rest privately at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
