Barbara Ann McKay, age 76, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 29, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Toledo, graduating from Start High School in 1967. She married the love of her life, Bob McKay, in 1974, and they recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. While she worked several jobs over the years, her most cherished role and life’s passion was being a devoted mom and grandma.
Anyone who knew Barb was touched by her kind and gentle spirit. She made friends everywhere she went and had a special gift for making others feel seen, heard, and cared for. She was the type of person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Along with her warmth, she had a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that kept us on our toes!
Family was everything to her. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest supporter. She was always present at school events, cheering them on, and celebrating their accomplishments. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and togetherness-hosting countless family gatherings, planning special sleepovers with her grandchildren, and making memories through simple joys like games, stories, and epic water balloon fights. Those moments will be treasured forever.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Robert “Moose” McKay; her children, Kelly (Steve) McNamee, Scott (Svetlana) McKay, Ryan (Danielle) McKay, and Laura Edgell; her grandchildren, Cameron, Connor, Megan, Olga, Alina, Anton, Joe, Reed, and Olivia; and her great-granddaughter, Maren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helene Joseph, and her sister, Linda Rydman.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who provided such loving care to mom over this past year. Your kindness brought comfort, dignity, and peace to her days, and will never be forgotten. We are sincerely thankful to the staff at Lakes of Sylvania for their kindness and compassion during her time there. We are also so grateful to Ohio Living Hospice, and especially to Kylie, Dawn, and Crystal, for their exceptional care, guidance, and support. A very special thank you to her private caregiver, Eman, who shared a truly beautiful and meaningful bond with Mom.
Suggested memorial contributions include Cherry Street Mission, Oaks of Righteousness Shelter/Oaks Village, or Community House Church.
Her love will live on in all of us, always.
The family will receive guests on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 5:00 pm until the start of a Celebration of her Life at 6:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd, Toledo.
