Barbara "Barb" Caldwell

Barbara “Barb” Jean Caldwell, age 80, of Sylvania, Ohio, formerly of Metamora, passed away on October 12, 2026.

Barb was born on April 20, 1946, in Painesville, Ohio, to Charles and Frances Nida, and grew up in Mentor-on-the-Lake. She retired after 26 years of service at the Metamora State Bank. She was a devoted member of the Metamora United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as Treasurer and was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She participated in nearly every church event and was well known for volunteering and helping the community.

Barb enjoyed walking, reading, bowling,and crafting. She took great pride in entering her handiwork in the Fulton County Fair, where she won many ribbons. She also enjoyed antiquing and treasured her collections of cat figurines and Lenox pieces. She and her husband shared daily walks at the mall, where she always stopped to greet her friend Mr. Roberts, who never failed to brighten her day.

Barb thrived on time spent with friends and family, and she was happiest when out and about among the people she loved. In her later years, dementia gradually kept her closer to home. Though she was seen less in the community she had so faithfully served, she remained surrounded by the love of her family, and her kindness and generous spirit were never forgotten by those who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Larry Caldwell; her sons, Aaron (Angela) Caldwell and Steven (Sara) Caldwell; her granddaughters, Emily and Avery Caldwell; her sister, June (Ken) Herron; her niece, Courtney (Cory) Herron Celestino; her sister-in-law Wilma Dotson, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Nida.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania Chapel, located at 3655 King Rd Toledo, OH 43617. The funeral service will be Friday, October 23, 2026 also at Newcomer Funeral Home at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Ravine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to MemoryLane Care Services of Toledo or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
