Anthony "Tony" B. Smeltzer, age 74, of Swanton, OH, passed away November 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 2, 1951, in Toledo to Wilbur and Ruth (Barber) Smeltzer. He was employed with the Toledo Blade for more than 25 years, retiring in 2012.
Tony worked hard throughout his life and took pride in creating a simple, meaningful life for his family. He loved being outdoors, especially when he was fishing or waterskiing, and he enjoyed building and fixing things with his own hands. Over the years, he built a cottage on a lake and later his dream home. Tony was always willing to help and was there when family or friends needed him. He was also an avid drummer and enjoyed listening to music.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Smeltzer. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christine (Kolinski) Smeltzer; daughters, Andrea (Jason) Whaley and Elizabeth (Ray) Doriot; grandsons, Billy and Charlie Kazmierczak; and sister, Carolyn Lynch.
The family will receive guests Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at Newcomer – SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral services will begin Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Patrick Rohen, Chaplain (Captain, U.S. Army) (Retired) officiating.
