Listen to Obituary

Anthony Scott Lawrence came into this world on June 29, 1988 with big blue eyes and a full head of black hair. He left us with permanent broken hearts on May 25, 2026 when he went home to Jesus, one month short of his 38th birthday. Tony attended St. Clement School and graduated from Whitmer High School in 2007. After high school he lived in California for a bit and attended Grossmont Community College. Anthony worked in a variety of fields throughout his life, including positions in local restaurants, landscaping, and maintenance work. Anthony viewed himself as a simple man, requiring little in the way of material possessions.

From a young age, it was obvious that Tony had a gentle and sensitive soul with a heart of gold. He was intuitive, wise beyond his years, and always…always…kind. Tony was a harsh critic of injustice and a defender of the bullied. He truly saw the best in everyone and had no tolerance for passing judgment on others. He had a profound love for animals and a gentle, compassionate nature that respected and valued all God’s creatures. He was truly someone who would give anything to help out those in need.

A creative and free spirit, he expressed himself through poetry and music, often writing his own songs. He was a gifted songwriter, carrying scratch paper and a pen with him everywhere in case inspiration would strike. However, it was not unusual for Tony to write on toilet paper or napkins if paper was not available. Sometimes Tony would spend an entire day doing nothing but writing; papers sprawled all over the floor as he pieced it all together. The times he spent in the recording studio where among those where his light shined the brightest. He also had a deep curiosity for the unknown and found joy in exploring the paranormal and collecting crystals.

Anthony was an only child and the light of his mother Marnie Gogol’s life. He was doted upon and taken care of by her his whole life, and he was well aware of her deep unwavering unconditional love and adoration. He was also very close to his Grandma Pam. You could often find him and “grandma” out to dinner at a buffet or Chinese restaurant. However his most loved restaurant was Taco Bell by far. Anthony’s favorite tradition was watching the Thanksgiving parade with his Grandma Pam and Aunt Al while dining on frozen waffles.

Tony had a small immediate family, and was loving and protective of us all. He was always quick to notice and compliment an outfit, change in hairstyle, etc. He had such a sweet nature about him. We are all going to miss Anthony’s laugh. When he started laughing, he couldn’t stop. It was contagious. We will also remember him for his unique spirit, his creativity, and his heart of gold.

Anthony was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Alice Cater; grandfather, John Lawrence; great-aunt, Susan Cater; and special friend, Judy Thorpe.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother and best friend, Marnie (Douglas) Gogol and father, Anthony Aranda; grandmother, Pamela Lawrence; uncle, John Lawrence and his children, Johnney, Justice, Josie, and Maddie; aunt, Allison Groth; great uncle, Thomas Cater ”Uncle Bunk” and his children Tommy (Maria) Cater, Michelle Williams (God Mother), Lyndsey (Dan) Barnett, and Kristen (Wesley) Wright; grandmother, Susan Lawrence; uncle, Eric (Allison) Sitter and his children, Madison and Grace; Angela (Barry) Stein and her children Dominick and Aidan; his Gogol family, grandmother, Barbara Gogol, stepbrother Drake (Jasper) Nosker and many special cousins.
