Alfred W. "Chuck" Schroeder, a dedicated public servant and beloved family man, passed away on May 30, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on February 10, 1939, in Oregon, Ohio, Chuck's life was marked by his commitment to hard work, his love for his family, and his enduring affection for the sea.
Chuck attended elementary and high school in his hometown of Oregon, Ohio. He devoted over twenty-five years to serving the city of Toledo, where his career spanned significant roles at the Toledo Zoo and later with the Toledo Water Department. His time at the zoo held special meaning not only for Chuck but also for his children, who fondly remember the joy of spending time with their father amidst the vibrant life of the zoo.
Known for his steadfast work ethic and genuine care, Chuck was regarded by those who knew him as a great man who always endeavored to provide for and nurture his family. His personality reflected the values of dedication and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.
He was married to his wife, Helen Schroeder, who preceded him in death. Alfred was the last surviving sibling of Alfred G. and Ellen Schroeder, closing a cherished chapter in the family's history.
Chuck's legacy lives on through his loving family, including his sons Alfred P. Schroeder and Dana Schroeder; his step-daughters Roberta Kleinhans and InaBye Dartt; his step-brother Clarence Lickert; and his grandchildren Rebecca Bohland, Alfred M. Schroeder, and Kara-lena Preston. He was also a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren and is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
