Alfred Leo Brady, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. Born on October 5, 1941, to Alfred E. and Nell A. (Heilner) Brady. Al was a man known for his kindness, faith, curiosity, and an unwavering love for people and life.
Al is survived by his wife, Sandy (Michalski, Kerchevall) Brady. He was the cherished father of Marianne (Michael) Peacock, Michael (Marsha) Brady, Thomas (Andrea) Brady, and Christine (Andrew) Troiani. Shelley (Lon) Stender, Rick (Gail) Kerchevall, Amy (Mark) Harbaugh, Rhonna Kerchevall, Chris (Amy) Kerchevall, and Jason (Tracy) Kerchevall. He was the proud grandfather of 27 grandchildren, including Derek Stender, who preceded him in death, and he was a great-grandfather of 27.
He held a special bond with his siblings who preceded him: Patricia (Dick) Campbell, John (Joan) Brady, Joseph (Jan) Brady, Jeanne Brady, and William (Karen) Brady. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and countless special friends who were drawn to his warmth and genuine spirit.
Al dedicated his career to education. He taught in Summerfield, Michigan, before joining St. John’s Jesuit, where he spent more than 30 years, primarily as a Biology teacher. Then he also served as a counselor for 10 years at McTigue Junior High School. He was most remembered for his humor, compassion and encouragement of students. He was a lifelong learner, furthering his education through scientific fellowships around the United States.
Al’s interests brought him joy and connection. He was a fisherman, a lover of boating and camping, and he treasured the memories made at Lake Leelanau. Art filled his life— he drew, he sang, played the drums, and cherished many songs and hymns.
Above all, Al was a family man, a man of faith, and truly a man for others. He was The Great Tiger! He accepted everyone he met, never had a negative word to say about those he knew. He had a dynamic personality, fun-loving nature, and open heart that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His laugh will echo in the memories of all who loved him.
Al loved deeply, lived fully, and enriched countless lives. His presence made the world brighter, and his absence will be felt profoundly. We will miss him dearly and remember him always.
