Alford "Gator" Troy Wells

Alford Troy Wells was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was known for his vibrant personality, his sense of humor, and, most of all, his love for his family.

Alford was born on August 30, 1962, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late William and Mildred Wells. Throughout his life, Alford worked many different jobs, but one of his greatest passions was detailing cars. He took pride in making a car look its best. He would get in your car and say, “This needs my touch,” and then, with that Alford personality, turn around and say, "Takin' it!"

Alford was also a die-hard sports fan. He proudly supported the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Whenever one of his teams won, family and friends knew that Alford was going to call—and sometimes, nobody answered because they already knew what he wanted to talk about!

He also loved to barbecue ribs. His family always looked forward to his ribs, although Alford never gave up the secret to his barbecue sauce.

Alford knew that his time on earth was coming to an end. Before he departed this life, he was able to tell his loved ones, “I love you.” He then let his family know that he was ready to “go home.” On August 1, 2026, Alford answered God’s call and peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

Alford was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Wells; his sons, William “Billy” Troy Wells and Alford Troy Wells Jr.; his brother, Aaron Wells; his ex-wife, Diana Hawkins; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Keyante S. Wells and Johnnie Mae Wells; grandchildren, Kylee Holbert and Ja’Vaire Holbert; brother, Andre L. Holmes; sister, Willette T. Wells; nieces, Melinda Wells, Melonie (Harold) Asberry, and Alicia Holmes; nephew, Aaron Wells Jr.; great-nephews, Je’Caryous Holmes-Williams and Andre Holmes-Williams; ex-wife, Cecelia Baxter-Wells; and a host of family members and friends.

Alford leaves behind more than memories—he leaves behind love, laughter, and a lifetime of moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rest well, Alford. You have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, and now you are finally home.

The family will receive guests Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Rock of Praise C.O.G.I.C., 1632 North Cove Blvd. Toledo, OH 43606. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Rock of Praise C.O.G.I.C. with Pastor Eugene Harris officiating.
