Abe W. DeWood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Toledo, Ohio on July 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on June 10, 1949, in Toledo, Abe dedicated much of his life to both his family and career, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community.

Abe grew up in Toledo and attended Whitmer High School. He later pursued further education at the University of Toledo, where he built a foundation that would support his impressive career. Abe devoted many years to the family-owned DeWood Restaurant, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his loved ones. He later ventured into the Food & Beverage service, working with Gladiux Catering, and subsequently at the Seagate Convention Center until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Abe was known for his humor and outgoing personality. He had a genuine love for social gatherings, often hosting memorable cookouts and parties at his home for family and friends. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball and football, cherishing every moment spent with them. Abe had a penchant for grocery shopping at Kroger's, where he would often share stories and connect with others in his community.

Abe was a proud veteran, having been inducted into the U.S. Army on July 26, 1969. He served with honor and received several accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His honorable discharge marked the conclusion of a chapter that reflected his dedication and love for his country.

Abe is survived by his devoted wife, Linda DeWood, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. Together they created a loving family that includes his children, Abe (Jamie) Wesley (Samantha) and Rachel, his step-daughter Deanna (John) Clarke, and his cherished grandchildren, Jaden (Trevor) Hartbarger, Gavin, Holden, Madden, Brantley, and Roman, as well as his great-granddaughter, Vivienne Lee. Abe is also remembered fondly by his siblings, Mike DeWood, Marc DeWood, and Pete DeWood, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Abe will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Dorothy DeWood, and his sister, Pamela. His legacy of love, laughter, and pride in his family will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, as they remember not only a remarkable man but also the joy and warmth he brought to their lives.
