It is with heavy hearts to announce our cherished daughter, sister and mother Jessica Marie, passed away suddenly on May 18, 2023 at Mercy ER, at the young age of 35, 5 days short of her 36th birthday. She led a full life in that short time. Early on, she found her niche, taking care of people which started with her Grannie Miller, who had a stroke. She came to live with us after rehab and Jessica would care for her after getting off the school bus. Relieving the caretaker until her mom got home from work. That is how her career of working in many nursing homes began. Her favorite patients were the ones with dementia, she loved them.
She graduated from Lourdes University. Completing her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration then going on to complete her MBA in Healthcare Administration. All the while, she was pregnant and after giving birth she went back to class 2 weeks later, to the astonishment of her teachers.
Her proudest and most cherished moment in life was when she gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Kyra Alice. She was a very loving and fun mom. Teaching her math and spelling. Together they enjoyed playing school, listening to music and dancing around the living room, watching movies. And Kyra even got her mom to play Roblox! Kyra said she was the best mommy in the world!
In her early adult years, Jessica was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis, and unfortunately she developed 3 more autoimmune diseases which made everyday living a challenge. To complicate matters, she was in a horrible car accident in August of 2022 that left her with a serious leg fracture. Seven surgeries later, she was healed and walking with minimal assistance. She struggled to get up each day due to her chronic health issues. But she did it, which showed how strong and resilient of a person she was.
Jessica is survived by her beautiful daughter, Kyra Alice, Parents, Robert and Debra (Miller), Brother, Corey (Ashlee), Precious niece, Cora Lee, her cats, Loki and Casper, who were her constant source of joy and comfort for her. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald and Alice (Dominiak) Miller, Richard Leffler. Greeting her in heaven also are her furry sons, Diego, her late dog and Sam, her late cat.
Jessica will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her indomitable spirit and the love she radiated will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have her in their lives.
As we her family and friends will navigate this profound loss, Jessica’s memory will serve as a guiding light of hope, love, and resilience.
We would like to thank Dr. Carleigh Zahn, Rheumatology, Dr. Hammad Rashid, Hematology, and Dr. Benjamin Boothy, Orthopedics for the compassionate and excellent care you gave Jessica. She admired all of you. Especially Dr. Boothby, who had witnessed her sense of humor, written notes on her affected leg, faces on the toes that he found prior to surgery!
Thank you Jenny, Jessie, Tia, and Bill for being very good and caring friends to her when she needed to talk.
Also we would like to thank all of the staff at Arbors of Oregon. Jessica was working as a social worker at the time of her death. They welcomed her into their work family while she was still healing from her accident. No questions asked when she needed time off for more surgeries or hospitalizations. P.T. department did therapy, loaned her equipment to get around. Everyone at Arbors, especially Sam, were her guardian angels.
